Bringing home a new baby, whether your first or your fourth, is one of the most sacred, sleep-deprived, chaotically beautiful seasons of life. Read on for 5 reasons why you should do an at home newborn session after baby arrives.
Newborns change SO quickly and honestly, even when you think you’re soaking it all up, the newborn season flies by. (Even if the days or nights seem to last forever…). Documenting this season with an at home newborn session is the easiest, most stress-free way to create magic from what feels like chaos.

These are the days you’re going to look back on and cherish in the years and decades to come. I’m not saying the days don’t get better (or easier – I swear they do!), but there is something so sacred and beautiful about the first days and weeks at home as a new family unit.
These moments can’t be recreated & I can’t imagine not documenting them. I know we’re all doing that with our phones, but I promise you’ll never regret having images that include all of your family (you, too!) during this time. Bonus, at home photos capture your home, nursery, and your daily life in an authentic way that allows you to truly feel these moments when you look back on them.

At home photos doesn’t mean your house has to be clean & spotless. As a mom of four, I totally get it and truly do not expect your home to look guest-ready. Instead of cleaning, focus on the couple of light infused areas where we’ll shoot (I’ll help you with this part) and clear the clutter. Tidy it away, hide it in your Monica closet (#IYKYK), or we’ll scootch it to the side so you won’t see any clutter in the photos. That’s it. Seriously.

Backyards, porches, back decks – I love them all! If you have bigger kids, let’s play outside! Playsets, bubbles, bikes, scooters, chalk – whatever they love, let’s do it! We’ll chase the light all over the front or back yard and also capture your family where you most love to spend time together. After all, that’s the whole point!

Instead of trekking kids in or with nice clothes to a studio where they feel they have to perform, let them be themselves at home! They’re comfortable, their favorite toys are nearby (often even in the photos), they can change clothes or grab a snack when needed, and then they’re ready for nap time or off to school once we’re done with photos. Clothing wise, I love to start with a more neutral, “mom’s choice” outfit and then let them change into their favorite – pjs, a twirly dress, their favorite costume, etc.

I block off at least 2 hours of time to make sure we have enough time & space for the session to feel laid-back and stress-free for everyone, including baby. If baby is hungry, baby eats. If baby wants to cuddle, snuggle on up (we love this part). If baby is fast asleep and happy to be set down on the bed, we take some solo shots. No need to pack up a million things or backup outfits because we’re in your home with everything baby or you could possibly need. Easy peasy.

Those are my top 5 reasons why you should do an at home newborn session. There are plenty more, but my main goal is to make documenting this beautiful season easy, stress-free, laid-back, and full of all of the goodness that the season has to offer.
I want you to walk away with images that will take you right back to all of the sweetest moments this postpartum season has to offer – no sleeplessness needed.

let's work together!
Can your family cuddle and laugh and have fun doing some of your favorite things together? (Don't worry, this isn't a trick question - tears and occasional meltdowns are expected but not mandatory if toddlers are involved...) If you all can enjoy each other, I'll do the rest. As my kids always say, teamwork makes the dream work. I'm so grateful to be on your team.
